Dan Coombs
24th May
– 24th June 2001
The Approach is pleased to announce the third exhibition of new work by Dan Coombs.
Coombs continues his interest in the figure set within a structure that he first explored in the paintings at the Saatchi gallery in 1996. In this exhibition his work takes the form of large constructions which combine toys, assorted objects (both bought and found) with abstract painting.
In this show, The Approach presents three large works – ‘Self Portrait as a Light Bulb’, ‘Moon River’ and ‘Hide and Seek’. The colours used in these works have shifted Coombs’ palette into extreme and dayglow hues, emphasising strong yellows, pinks, blues, purples and acid greens. These scavenged works form a fractured narrative that map a diary of the artists mind.
