Germaine Kruip
Rehearsal,
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam,
2005
The Rijksmuseum at this time was under renovation and stripped to original state, as architect Pierre J. H. Cuypers (1827-1921) intended in 1885. For this work, the windows were cleaned and undone from any filters or black-out material, all commercial banners were removed from the building's exterior and the municipal outdoor lighting was turned off; 580 computer-controlled halogen lamps were installed beneath all windows, directed into the space, programmed to dim progressively in a 24-second cycle.
